First Timer Tips

Everyone at Bikram Yoga Bayside were all beginners once. What are you waiting for?

We know trying a new form of yoga (especially Bikram!) can be daunting.

But we are here to help...


We've put together some tips that will help guide you through your first class at the studio... Because we want you to come back! 

Before Class

Arrive early

Give yourself plenty of time to fill out your registration form, get changed and find yourself a spot in the hot room.

Hydrate... But not too much!

We encourage all new students to drink plenty of water leading up to their first class. Don't drink too much right before class though as a full tummy of water can make it harder to practice some postures.

Avoid eating

Just two hours before class... However, if you do need to eat, a small piece of fruit (such as an apple) will do.

Bring your yoga mat, a large towel and a bottle of water!

If you don't have a mat or a towel or forget to bring them, you can hire them from the studio. Remember to bring a second towel if you wish to shower afterwards.
We sell water too so if you forget your bottle, we won't let you go thirsty! 

Wear light clothing

Whatever you do, don't come in long pants!

Wear light fitting, comfortable clothing suitable to get sweaty in.

We have the answers! We are here to guide you and ensure you have the best introduction to Bikram Yoga. If you have any questions before class, please ask your teacher, and they will be only too happy to help.


During Class

Breathe!

In and out through the nose... not through your mouth. This will help to increase your meditative state and allow you to focus on each moment of your practice.

Take lots of breaks if you need to...

Even the most seasoned yogi's can take breaks during their classes. Simply lie in savasana with your feet to the back wall or kneel facing the front mirrors. Come back and join the practice once you are ready.

Stay in the room

Yes, you will be sweating and yes, it will be hot. The important thing is to stay in the room.

After Class

Eat, hydrate and come back the next day... because we'd love to #seeyouonthemat soon.
